And we’re back!

We're Back

It’s been a while since we last posted anything, performed anything, composed anything – shit, it’s been a while, period. But, of course, we’re happy to announce to all of you cute little bunny rabbits that, after a long and beautiful summer that isn’t quite over yet, we are officially back for some more good fun – and we certainly mean some serious business this time round. We have a few things lined up for you, but let’s take an orderly pace and do this one item at a time.

First thing’s first: item 1 – A GIG

Our last live performance was a private affair – the beautiful wedding of a friend or two at a wine farm out in the sticks somewhere. In hindsight, it’s clear to us that most of you were unable to make it, but ya, it went down pretty smooth – especially since we had Peachy Keen opening for us which is always a tasty, tasty treat.

But that was early December 2011, it’s now March 2012 and it’s also about time something was done about the distinct lack of vibe round these parts.

So: you – yes YOU – can expect a real-deal, rough-and-ready live “gig” courtesy of us, your favourite mongrel ska band, on APRIL 21st @ THE BRASS BELL in Kalk Bay. We haven’t played the Bell before, ever, so we’re pretty forken keen – especially since we’ve been getting requests to jol that side of the world for several years now. So there you have it Valley kids – we’ll be sorta in your neighbourhood soon. Get on the ball! Get on our balls! It’s on!

In completely unrelated news – watch this space for interesting developments. We have something we’d like you to get involved in. Just a little heads up…

Siamese Twin Video

After far too many setbacks to list we finally finished shooting our new music video for “Siamese Twin” last weekend. This will be the second video off our latest EP “Free Music” and will be quite a different vibe than what we usually go for in a video. You’ll have to wait and see what it’s all about but we basically tells a story using kid versions of the band members… see if you can spot who’s who.

The video will be launched next month at a special event which we will reveal the details of closer to the time… but it’s definitely gonna be a party!

Free Music

Almost a year a ago, despite the promising growth in the fashion market, Captain Stu decided that instead of releasing their intended line of mens’ risqué lingerie they would redirect their efforts towards recording a new EP. The legendary Neal Snyman agreed to come onboard as producer/mixer/generally kiff ou and Ross and Myles from HeyPapaLegend were nice enough to let us use their studio, kettle and toilet. Lee Thomson, Jody Engelbrecht and Basil Rad joined us in aforementioned studio (and occasionally toilet) to fatten up the horn sections and eat some chicken mayo sandwiches. The EP then traveled to New York so some crazy china called Steve Fallon could master the poes off it and basically make it sound super jus to the max.

So finally, it is done. And we’re giving it away absolutely free!

Free Music

The launch party will be held this Friday (5 November) at Zula bar in Cape Town where all attendees will receive a free EP. It will simultaneously become available for free download right here on our humble little site. If a mere digital copy just won’t do, but you don’t live in Cape Town, don’t worry cos we’ll be touring around the country with it. So keep your eyes on the gig listing to the right to see when you can come party with us and pick up a free EP in your hometown.

You can click here to download the first single called “The Day”… early release, for free, cos we love you like that.

I would however like to apologise to everyone that was looking forward to our exclusive mens’ lingerie. Production will resume as soon as we sober up. Until then here’s a picture of the prototype to keep you happy:

Shooting webs, dinosaurs and Elvis

Vibing hard

Seeing as we’ve got a sweet new EP on the way we decided to shoot a music video for one of the tracks. So this weekend we rented some puke-stained fancy dress costumes and video equipment and headed on the biggest mission around Cape Town we’ve been on since Matt tried to track down the one and only chick thats ever responded positively to the sexual harassment he routinely shouts from open car windows.

shooting 18 locations in 2 days was an incredibly sweaty task made no easier by the man-camel toe inducing outfits. It was however an awesome weekend and the footage is looking amazing.

Jumping Hard

A special thanks goes out to Richard “Dick balls” Bolland for directing, filming, editing, not masturbating too much on set and owning a camera. Thanks also to Brandon, Sophie, Emma, Jess, Dom, Poo-Leg Greg and all the sexy extras for being absolute players and helping make the shoot a success.

Watch this space for the video.

Fear and Photoshopping in Las Vegas

Tripping Testicles

Our tame trombonist (who moonlights as a shady online pedoohile poker player) Mathew Willis has been given the awesome opportunity of going to Vegas for a month to play poker and marry a pre-op transvestite stripper. So for the next insanely busy, football fan-filled month we’re gonna have our old buddy and ex Captain Stu member Clement “The Clemforcer” Carr filling in on sexyphone and  keyplank.

Laying down the grooves

messy

So you guys may have been wondering where we’ve been since our last gig, which was just before the dinosaurs died off due to a mass suicide cult started by a crafty pterodactyl, and the answer is quite simple. We’ve been drawing penises on things, making coffee, seeing how many days in a row we can wear the same trousers, making rather a large mess and writing, crafting, rewritng, scrapping, re-looking and finally recording some new songs for our upcoming EP.

As you can see, cousin It very kindly offered us his studio, which was awesome.

But even more awesome (though and slightly less Adams Familyish) was that we’ve had the privilege of recording our 5 new tracks with SAMA winning (and goth-chick digging) producer/engineer Neal Snyman. Which has been more awesome than a deep-fried pizza burger.

Neal > Pizza Burger

We’ve almost finished all of the tracking and are really excited about how it’s sounding so far. We’ll be keeping you posted on the progress as well as the sweet launch party we’re organising.
