Who inspires you personally as a vocalist/guitarist

Two people spring immediately to mind: Sublime’s Bradley Nowell and Jello Biafra from the Dead Kennedys. There are many more remarkable people who’ve had big influences – just struggling to call names to mind at this point.

What is your favorite Captain Stu song?

I’ve always loved performing “Blinding Lights” and “Still The Same” live, but I’m really becoming attached to some of the new stuff we’ve been writing for our upcoming recording. Very exciting stuff

What is your favourite album of all time?

I haven’t heard it yet, but some contenders are Mischief Brew – Songs From Under the Sink, Sublime – 40 oz. To Freedom, Dead Kennedys – Frankenchrist, Guts Pie Earshot – Anatopia, maybe Court of the Crimson King by King Crimson… I’m far too spoiled for choice to have a favourite to be honest.

What age did you start playing and why did you choose your instrument/s?

I started playing recorder at around 4 or 5 and could read music before I went to school. At some point I did Piano for around 5 years and then moved on to the guitar which I’ve been playing on for almost 10 years. I chose guitar when I did as a consequence of the music I was listening to… for some reason piano wasn’t doing it for me at the time.

In your spare time what do u do?

I spend my spare time reading mountains of books, drinking beer, listening to and playing music and doing gardening. Also enjoy long walks.

What did you want to be when you grew up?

As a kid I’d always though I’d either be a Marine Biologist, an Archaeologist or a Musician.  Once considered teaching… I think I’m happy with how things have turned out so far.

Coffee or tea?

Both are too good to do without.

If you could kick any historical figure in the balls who would it be?

Sigmund Freud’s father.

Where’s the weirdest place you’ve slept on tour?

Once or twice I’ve actually slept on a bed with a blanket, pillow and everything! I’m generally quite comfortable using car seats, beer-tent-hay-bales, bushes, crack-den mattresses etc. Life’s a journey apparently.

If you get the chance, who do you go and see play live?

I’m a big fan of Mr Cat and the Jackal, The Tidal Waves, The Car Boot Vendors, Checked Zebra, Holiday Murray… when I get the chance, of course.

What is your favourite quote from a movie /book ?

“Don’t Fear God,

Don’t Worry about death;

What is good is easy to get, and

What is terrible is easy to endure.”

- Epicurus’ Tetrapharmakon
